Eastern Paranormal's Ouija Board Experiment Live On The Air

Does the Ouija board simply work off of ones subconscious mind? Is it a portal to the realms of the unknown? Or is it simply a board game? These questions have been pondered by believer and skeptic alike for years.

After only a little over a year of manufacturing Charles Kennard handed over his control of the manufacturing of the Ouija board to the Ouija Novelty Company. Then in 1901 one William Fuld was appointed over the production of the Ouija board. In 1919 the Ouija Novelty Company turned over the patent rights to Fuld who became the most successful Ouija manufacturer of his time placing his name forevermore down in history as the father of the modern Ouija board.

For a quarter of a century William Fuld oversaw every aspect of the manufacturing of the Ouija board. In February 1927, while on the roof of his factory supervising the replacement of a flagpole Fuld fell to his death. Fuld's children took over the manufacturing of the Ouija board until 1966, when they sold all trademarks and patent rights to Parker Brothers.

Wednesday, September 26, 2007, on Eastern Paranormal's radio show "A Glimpse Through The Veil With Gabreael," Gabreael and two other Eastern Paranormal members will be conducting a live on the air Ouija board experiment from one location while Associate Member Michelle Ruble is in another undisclosed geographical location participating in the experiment with her associates hundreds of miles away.
Gabreael and Michelle will be asking the teams the same questions and record the answers unknown to the other team members to compare the answers.

Be sure to tune into Eastern Paranormal's radio show Wednesday, September 26, 2007 "A Glimpse Through The Veil," at 8:PM EST to listen to the live broadcast of the Ouija board experiment. This is sure to be one of Gabreael's most controversial shows ever.

Here is an interesting ecto picture sent to us by Darla of White Oak, Pennsylvania. Darla was hosting a birthday party the day this picture was shot and said she kept feeling the presence of her deceased mother. She was taking party pictures when this ecto photo showed up around the birthday girl's leg. Darla says, "I accept this picture a validation of that feeling that my mother was indeed around checking in on the family that day."

Dictionary.com's definition of ethics is as follows:

1. A set of principles of right conduct.

2. A theory or a system of moral values: “An ethic of service is at war with a craving for gain” (Gregg Easterbrook).

3. ethics (used with a sing. verb) The study of the general nature of morals and of the specific moral choices to be made by a person; moral philosophy.

4. ethics (used with a sing. or pl. verb) The rules or standards governing the conduct of a person or the members of a profession: medical ethics.

Today I am writing about a disturbing trend that many in the paranormal field are whispering about, that is the ethics, or rather the lack there of being practiced by some groups in the field today. Below is a list of seven practices which should never be tolerated by any serious investigation groups:

1. Identity Theft. Identity theft is starting an organization intentionally with an identical or almost identical name to another well known group or former well known group. This is being done by individuals hoping that this will increase their search engine placement. This is a despicable act. If you know of a founder who has participated in such behavior you should immediately disassociate yourself from that group. It shows their true character. When founding a group at the very least you should do the following when searching for a name:

a. Google the name.

b. Do a "Who is" on the name.

c. Buy your name domain. You can get free domain hosting very often with

www.godaddy.com with the purchase of your domain cost.

2. The open participation in a seance in private residence investigations. If a group wants to conduct a seance in the course of experiments for data or lack of data collection OUTSIDE of investigations in a controlled environment that is that private group’s prerogative. However, conducting a seance in a private investigation where activity is occurring is an unethical practice. Simply due to the fact that you open up the home to the possibility of more activity. I have personally witnessed several cases I was contacted on that this was the case. Any TRUE medium/psychic should NEVER need to participate in a seance to retrieve or communicate information.

3. Drinking on investigations. You should never consume alcohol or drugs on an investigation. This includes celebrating at the end of an investigation at that location. Last year I was contacted by someone that had a somewhat intense haunting in their former home that was only made worse three fold because of this sort of behavior. They had an investigation group come in, they had pictures of beer cans and such around during the investigation. The next time the group came back one of their members got a scratch running down their back. The home owner ended up selling the home for considerably less than the going market price because of the increased activity.

4. Provoking spirits. This is where a group comes in and intentionally invokes spirits by provoking them in a negative manner. This is done by making comments like, "You're a coward, I dare you to...." Again I was contacted a couple of years ago by a family that this had incurred in their home by a group. The family ended up having to move because the activity increased ten fold after that. We have some great paranormal photos. Not in one case was provoking used. Speaking openly to them while you are taking EVP's and shooting pictures is fine in a polite manner. It is when a group puts a negative spin on the tone of the investigation the leaves the door open for increased activity in the home.

5. Knowingly posting fraudulent evidence on your website. We have all witnessed groups posting everything from oil painting picture clips to intentionally hoaxed pictures. When a group does this they might as well shut their doors. They have lost all accountability. Evidence posted on your website should be run through a battery of test before posted publicly. Remember! If in doubt throw it out!

6. Affiliation with "Dark Art" practices. I am referring to Satanist, HooDoo Voodoo practitioners and the like. If you come to the realization that one of your members are participating in such practices you need to disassociate them immediately. Because of my deep study of demonology through the years I have been consulted on several incubus cases where Satanic ritual practices and HooDoo practices had been performed prior to the attacks. You never want to knowingly include such a person in a serious investigation. Often these sort of people have dark entities attached to them that can make a volatile situation even more so.

7. Association fraud. Anyone who has had any kind of media coverage has had to deal with this. We have been contacted and by several former businesses stating that a group has contacted them claiming association with us when they have none requesting to do an investigation at their site. One time they were even stupid enough to put it in an email that was immediately forwarded to me by a contact. This is a deplorable act. We then went on to TOTALLY not recommend this group because of this DOCUMENTED behavior. All paranormal groups should have an "About Us Page" that clearly states who their members and associates are. We know of one group here in Eastern Carolina last year that posted they were conducting an investigation with TAPS on their website. They were not, and rightfully so were totally debunked.

What to watch for – and what to do about it

You hear heavy footsteps in the upstairs hallway when you know no one is up there. Doors slam unaccountably. Commonly used items disappear and reappear without cause. The kitchen light turns on by itself. There's the unmistakable scent of a strange perfume in the air.

These may be indications that your house is haunted. True hauntings are rare occurrences, and it may be difficult to determine whether or not any strange phenomena you are experiencing in your home might be due to a haunting. For one thing, no one really knows what a "real" haunting is - what causes it or why it starts. There are many theories, of course, which we have discussed in this space in the article "Ghosts: What Are They?" But if you think your house may really be haunted, what can you do about it?

The Signs of a Haunting

The first step is to determine, as best you can, whether or not you truly have a legitimate case of a haunting.

Not all hauntings are alike, and they may exhibit a variety of phenomena. Some hauntings feature a single phenomenon - such as a particular door slamming shut that occurs repeatedly - while others consist of many different phenomena, ranging from odd noises to full-blown apparitions.

Here's a partial list of phenomena that might indicate that your house is haunted:

Unexplained noises - footsteps; knocks, banging, rapping; scratching sounds; sounds of something being dropped. Sometimes these noises can be subtle and other times they can be quite loud.

Doors, cabinets and cupboards opening and closing - most often, these phenomena are not seen directly. The experiencer either hears the distinct sounds of the doors opening and closing (homeowners get to know quite well the distinctive sounds their houses make) or the experiencer will return to a room to find a door open or closed when they are certain that it was left in the opposite position. Sometimes furniture, like kitchen chairs, are perceived to have been moved. Very rarely will the experiencer actually witness the phenomenon taking place.

Lights turning off and on - likewise, these events are seldom seen actually occurring, but the lights are switched on or off when the experiencer knows they were not left that way. This can also happen with TVs, radios and other electrically powered items.

Items disappearing and reappearing - this phenomenon, which we have dubbed "the DOPler Effect" (DOP = Disappearing Object Phenomenon), has been examined in the article "The DOPler Effect." Others have called this "the borrowers" phenomenon, and it's the familiar experience of not being able to find a regularly used item - say, your set of car keys - which you believe you placed in a spot you routinely place them. But they're gone and you look high and low for them with no success. Some time later, the keys are found - in exactly the place you normally put them. It's as if the object was borrowed by someone or something for a short time, then returned. Sometimes they are not returned for days or even weeks, but when they are, it's in an obvious place that could not have been missed by even a casual search.

Unexplained shadows - the sighting of fleeting shapes and shadows, usually seen out of the corner of the eye. This phenomenon has also been discussed in some detail in "Shadow People." Many times, the shadows have vaguely human forms, while other times they are less distinguishable or smaller.

Strange animal behavior - a dog, cat or other pet behaves strangely. Dogs may bark at something unseen, cower without apparent reason or refuse to enter a room they normally do. Cats may seem to be "watching" something cross a room. Animals have sharper senses than humans, and many researchers think their psychic abilities might be more finely tuned also. (See "Animals and Ghosts" )

Feelings of being watched - this is not an uncommon feeling and can be attributed to many things, but it could have a paranormal source if the feeling consistently occurs in a particular part of the house at a particular time.

Those are some of the most common experiences of those who think their houses are haunted. Yet even stranger things can happen...

Stronger Evidence

The following phenomena are more rare, but could be stronger evidence of a haunting:

Mild psychokinetic phenomena - hearing a door open or close is one thing. Actually seeing it happen is quite another. Similarly, actually seeing a light go on or off by itself is greater proof that something unexplained is happening. Do you see the TV or radio turn on? Or perhaps you're present when a child's powered toy begins to operate on its own. Doors and windows are locked or unlocked. Some people report that when they are in bed they can feel and/or hear something sitting on the bed.

Feelings of being touched - the feeling of being watched is one thing, and actually feeling like you are being touched is quite another.

Some people feel something brush past them, something touching their hair or "a hand" on the shoulder. Some feel a gentle poke, push or nudge.

Cries and whispers - on occasion, muffled voices, whispering and crying can be heard. Sometimes it's music from some unknown source. People hear their names being said. This phenomenon, as is true for the one above, gains more credibility if more than one person hears or sees the same thing at the same time.

Cold or hot spots - cold spots are classic haunting symptoms, but any instance of a noticeable variance in temperature without a discernable cause could be evidence.

Unexplained smells - the distinct fragrance of a perfume or cologne that you do not have in your house. This phenomenon comes and goes without any apparent cause and may accompany other phenomena, such as shadows, voices or psychokinetic phenomena. Foul odors can happen in the same way.

Rarer still are more extreme phenomena, some of which have been called poltergeist phenomena, and can be quite strong evidence of a true haunting:

Moving or levitating objects (severe psychokinetic phenomena) - dinner plates sliding across the table; pictures flying off walls; doors slamming shut with great force; furniture sliding across the floor.

Physical assault - scratches, slaps and hard shoves. This kind of personal assault is extremely rare, but obviously highly disturbing.

Other physical evidence - unexplained writing on paper or walls; handprints and footprints.

Apparitions - physical manifestation of a spirit or entity. These phenomena are also very rare and can take many forms: human-shaped mists or forming mists of some indistinguishable shape; transparent human forms that disappear quickly; and most rarely, human forms that look as real and solid as any living person, but that disappear into a room or even while being viewed.

Rule Out Rational Explanations

A person who has experienced some of these phenomena might have cause to believe that his or her house is haunted. But maybe not. In fact, according to most experts, probably not. The human mind and human senses (as any magician will tell you) are easily fooled. And people can often mistake explainable (if unusual) occurrences in their homes for the paranormal.

Before you decide there's a ghost in your house or move out from fear, do your best to find rational explanations for what you are experiencing. Virtually all of the phenomena listed on the previous page could have perfectly natural causes:

noises could be house settling, plumbing or even vermin such as mice and squirrels

opening and closing doors could be faulty hinges or caused by drafts

DOPler phenomena could just be carelessness and forgetfulness

shadows could be just that - shadows caused, perhaps, by a passing car's headlights

as real as some of these things might seem to you, they really could be just products of your imagination

Of course, the more extreme the phenomena, the harder they are to dismiss.

And, as noted above, if multiple witnesses experience the same phenomena, they are likely to be taken more seriously.

Get help in finding rational explanations for the phenomena. A plumber might help you find the cause of that banging. A carpenter can fix that door from closing on its own. A friend or neighbor might be able to look at your particular experience in a different way and offer a reasonable explanation for your "haunting" that you might not have though of. In short, make every possible effort to prove that your house is not haunted.

Keep A Journal

If you feel you have ruled out rational explanations for the phenomena that are taking place in your house, and they are still occurring on a more or less regular basis, document them. Keep a journal of the phenomena as they happen. For example:

June 2, 2002; 10:30 p.m. - Was sitting watch TV when the bathroom light switched on by itself. Went in and turned it off again.

June 10, 2002; 9:14 p.m. - Was in the kitchen and heard the footsteps crossing the upstairs hallway again. No one was up there. Went up to investigate and could find no cause.

A journal such as this could help with any formal investigation of the phenomena by experts.

If you hear unexplained noises, attempt to record them with a portable tape recorder. If there are physical phenomena of any kind, photograph or videotape them. Keep your journal, recording and camera equipment readily available so you can document the phenomena as it happens.

Call the Experts

When should you call a paranormal investigator? Only when you have ruled out any rational explanations for the phenomena you are experiencing and are thoroughly convinced that your house is truly haunted should you contact the experts. Of course, if the phenomena are extreme and you feel that you and your family are in any kind of physical or psychological danger, you should call for help right away.

LAS VEGAS (AP) - George "Lee" Lutz, whose brief stay in an Amityville, N.Y., home spawned one of the most famous haunted house stories ever, has died of natural causes. He was 59.

Lutz, a Las Vegas resident, died Monday, his lawyer, Larry Zerner of Los Angeles, confirmed Wednesday.

The Clark County coroner listed Lutz' cause of the death as heart disease.

Lutz, a former land surveyor, became famous after moving his new bride, Kathy, and three children into a three-story Dutch colonial on Long Island in 1975, about a year after six members of the DeFeo family had been shot and killed in the home. Ronald DeFeo Jr., the eldest son, was convicted of the murders.

The Lutzes lived in the home for 28 days before being driven out by the spirits of the DeFeos, according to Lutz' account.

The family's tales of eerie feelings and waking dead became the source for Jay Anson's 1977 book, "The Amityville Horror," along with a 1979 film of the same title and a 2005 movie remake.

The book and movies chronicled the Lutz family's horrors in suburbia, including visions of walls oozing slime, moving furniture, a visit from a demonic pig named Jodie and spontaneous levitation.

The franchise made a cult figure out of Lutz, who some claimed bore a creepy resemblance to the killer. But it never made him rich. Lutz claimed to have made only $300,000 off the tale.
Almost immediately after telling it, Lutz' story was challenged by some who accused him of trying to profit from the DeFeo murders.

In 1979, shortly before the film's release, William Weber, DeFeo Jr.'s lawyer, told The Associated Press that he, along with Kathy and George Lutz, had invented parts of the best-selling story "over many bottles of wine."

"We were really playing with each other. We were creating something the public would want to hear about," Weber said, claiming that he supplied the Lutzes with background on the DeFeo murders to weave into their ghost stories.

Lutz denied the allegations.

The Amityville tale and the rights to profit from it quickly led to a tangle of litigation involving the Lutzes, Weber, publishers, Anson and others.

After fleeing the home and abandoning their possessions, the Lutzes moved to San Diego, briefly selling Amway products to make a living. Eventually they moved to Arizona, where the Lutzes divorced. Kathy Lutz, who was active in a Christian ministry, died in 2004 of a respiratory disease.

Lutz, called "Lee" by his friends, moved to Las Vegas in the late 1980s, said Dan Farrands, a Los Angeles filmmaker who befriended him six years ago while making a documentary about the Amityville murders for the History Channel.

Farrands said Lutz was active in his Catholic church, volunteered at a homeless shelter and spent his time restoring old cars. Lutz was a lighthearted, Farrands said, until the subject of Amityville came up, "and then he'd turn sort of blank."

"It was a subject that was very troubling for him," Farrands said, adding that Lutz always believed he had witnessed the supernatural in that home.

"It was not that everything that had ever been said about that story was true, it had become a piece of Hollywood merchandise, it became larger than life. But, for him, that never took away from the fact that his family was scared away from their home," Farrands said.

"People are disrespecting a true story," Lutz told People Magazine last year. "It's my family's story, and it's hurtful."

Lutz is survived by his longtime girlfriend Cindy Stock, of Las Vegas, and his five children: Christopher, Daniel, Melissa, Gabrielle and Noel.

A private memorial service is planned, Zerner said.

An American Haunting Based On The Bell Witch

An American Haunting comes out this Friday. It is based on a book written about the Bell Witch of Tennessee. I plan to see the movie this weekend. I have read several reviews on the movie, but I thought the review from Wikipedia was the most informative one I read so I posted it below.

An American Haunting is a 2006 American thriller film written and directed by Courtney Solomon. It stars Donald Sutherland, Sissy Spacek, Rachel Hurd-Wood and James D'Arcy. The film was previewed at the AFI Film Festival on November 5, 2005 and is set to be released in U.S. theaters on May 5, 2006. The film had an earlier release in the U.K. on April 14.

The film is based on the novel An American Haunting, by Brent Monahan. The events in the novel are supposedly based true events from the legend of The Bell Witch that have been validated by the State of Tennessee and President Andrew Jackson as the only case in United States history where a spirit or entity caused the death of a man.

Between the years 1818 and 1820, the Bell Family of Red River, Tennessee was visited by an unknown presence that haunted the family and would eventually end up causing the death of one its members. Starting with sounds around the house at night, and the sighting of strange animals around the farm, the "sounds" eventually escalated into full brutal contact with certain family members which caused severe psychological and physical torment.

The attacks grew in strength, with the spirit slapping, clawing, dragging and beating the Bell's youngest daughter, Betsy. The spirit, who everyone eventually referred to as Kate, seemed to reserve her most hateful attacks for John Bell Sr. The Bells searched for rational explanations and ways to rid their house of this entity, but to no avail.

The spirit began to communicate with them through sounds at first, then later by actually speaking in a powerful voice. Once when the spirit was questioned about where it came from and why, it referred to itself as, " Kate Batts' witch", and claimed the only mission it had was to eventually kill John Bell. The spirit could seemingly predict the future, reveal secrets of those present, quote any Scripture flawlessly, and foresee events happening great distances away, reporting the events later perfectly. The haunting ended later with the poisoning death of John Bell. The spirit claimed that when he was asleep, she gave him a dose of some strange liquid that was later found in the room. When this mystery 'medicine' was tested on a cat, the animal went into seizures and died. It is said that at his funeral, the witch laughed, screamed and sang songs happily while others mourned. Soon after, the witch departed, promising to return in seven years. In March of 1821 young Betsy broke off her engagement with Joshua Gardner.

She did return in 1828 for a few short weeks. During this visit she came to the home of John Bell Jr and had long talks with him about the past, the present and the future. She made some predictions for the future. Kate also said there was a reason for John Bells death. However she never said what the reason was. After the second visit, she said her next return would be in One Hundred and Seven years. That would have been in 1935. But some believe that she (Kate) never left the area at all due to the strange things that has occurred in and around the town of Adams and the Bell Witch Cave over these many years.

Some believe there is no Bell Witch, but that John Bell Sr. was an abusive father who beat the kids and had them tell the accounts of the Bell Witch to the locals to avoid suspicion. The family then turned on him, and posioned him blaming the witch for his death.

Robin house 'haunted'

THERE'S a strange noise coming from Robin Gibb's home - and it's not one of his old records...it's a ghost.

The 57-year-old Bee Gees singer claims his 12th-century house is haunted by a spook who likes to play pranks on him and his family.

Robin said: "There's a resident ghost who mysteriously fills up the water in the old font in the chapel which we converted into a dining room.

"This was a place where monks would be trained for their vocation."

Robin, who sang lead vocals for Giving Up The Ghost on the band's 1987 album ESP, said he has been a keen historian since the age of eight.

He added: "I love visiting old churches and reading about historical characters. I've always had at least one history book on the go, even on tour."

No doubt the poltergeist plaguing his home in Thame, Berks, will be shifting a few of his history book around.

And if it's a really good ghost, it'll hide his Bee Gees albums, too.

Through the years I have found that sometimes folks who contact us needing help with activity in their home actually are generating the activity themselves with psychokinesis (Poltergeist type of activity).

Sometimes they accept this theory and then the activity stops. Other times depending on their cultural/religious back ground they insist it is demonic or a dark entity of some sort, even when it's not (This is not to say that demonic activity doesn't exist. I just haven't found it to be as common as some believe that it is). In those cases I have watched the activity follow them from home to home. As acceptance of self is something many flee from.

What You Need to Know About...Telekinesis

Here's a primer on telekinesis (or psychokinesis) - what it is, remarkable stories of those who have it, how it might work... and how you can test and develop your powers.

Whoever believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.

Psychokinesis (PK) - sometimes referred to as telekinesis or mind over matter - is the ability to move things or otherwise affect the property of things with the power of the mind. Of psychic abilities, true psychokinesis is one of the rarest. Few have been able to demonstrate this ability, and even those demonstrations are highly contested by the skeptics.

Do people have psychokinetic powers? Do you? Is there a way you can test and develop your PK abilities?

Case studies

Here are brief outlines of some people who have demonstrated remarkable PK abilities:

Stanislawa Tomczyk. Born in Poland, Tomczyk came to the attention of investigators when it was reported that startling poltergeist-like activity occurred spontaneously around her. She could control some telekinetic feats, but only under hypnosis. In this hypnotic state, Tomczyk took on a personality that called itself "Little Stasia" who could levitate small objects when Tomczyk placed her hands on either side of them. In the early 1900s, one investigator, Julien Ochorowicz, watched these levitations at very close range and observed something like fine threads emanating from her palms and fingers, although they were examined carefully before the experiment. And it didn't seem to be a trick. "When the medium separates her hands," Ochorowicz observed, "the thread gets thinner and disappears; it gives the same sensation as a spider's web. If it is cut with scissors, its continuity is immediately restored." In 1910, Tomczyk was tested by a group of scientists at the Physical Laboratory in Warsaw where she produced remarkable physical phenomena under strict test conditions.

Nina Kulagina. One of the most celebrated and scrutinized psychics to claim psychokinetic powers was Nina Kulagina, a Russian woman who discovered her abilities while attempting to develop other psychic powers. Reportedly, she has demonstrated her powers by mentally moving a wide range of nonmagnetic objects, including matches, bread, large crystal bowls, clock pendulums, a cigar tube and a salt shaker among other things. Some of these demonstrations have been captured on film. The skeptics contend, of course, that her abilities would not stand up to scientific testing, and that she may be nothing more that a clever magician.

Uri Geller. Geller is one of the most well-known "psychics" who has publicly demonstrated feats of psychokinesis: spoon and key bending have become almost synonymous with Geller's name. Although many skeptics and magicians consider his metal-bending performances nothing more than adroit sleight-of-hand, Geller has allegedly shown that he can manifest the effects over great distances and in multiple locations. On a British radio show in 1973, after demonstrating key bending to the astonishment of the host, Geller invited the listening audience to participate. Just minutes later, phone calls began pouring into the radio station from listeners all over the UK reporting that knives, forks, spoons, keys and nails began to bend and twist spontaneously. Watches and clocks that had not run in years began to work. It was an event whose success surprised even Geller and thrust him into the spotlight.

Some magicians may be able to duplicate some of these effects, but there may be legitimacy to this telekinetic phenomenon. In April, 2001, University of Arizona psychology professor Gary Schwartz conducted a "spoon-bending party" at which about 60 students were able to bend spoons and forks, with varying degrees of success, seemingly with the power of their minds. Poltergeist Activity

Some researchers contend that the most common form of psychokinesis is one that is not consciously intended. Poltergeist activity, they suggest, might be caused by the subconscious of people under stress, emotional turmoil or even hormonal peaks. Without conscious effort, these people cause china to fly off shelves, objects to break or loud rappings to emanate from their houses' walls, among other effects.

In the same way, PK might also be responsible for phenomena experienced at séances. Table tilting, knockings and levitation might not be caused by contact with spirits, but by the minds of the participants. And, yes, many, many séances have been hoaxed over the years, but if you think the paranormal phenomena documented at some séances is not real, read the article How To Create a Ghost.

"WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT... TELEKINESIS"

How Does It Work?

How psychokinesis works is unknown for certain, but many parapsychologists think that it is a demonstration of the physical influence of a person's brain on the physical world.

Robert L. Shacklett at Speculations about PK says that laboratory tests demonstrate that "the release of relatively large amounts of physical energy can be triggered by thought power." And this power can move or influence things, essentially, because cosmologically we are all connected to everything else. "'Thought' takes place at a different level than the physical (call it 'mind') but interacts with the physical through a weak coupling between physical energy and a more subtle energy form," he says. "The physical level operates in accordance with natural law except at the times when thought interacts with it."

"Everyone has the potential to be able to be telekinetic. Telekinesis is created by higher levels of consciousness. The energy to move or bend an object is created by a person's thoughts created by their subconscious mind."

How remains the puzzle. But there are theories:

Some researchers suspect there might be a quantum connection. Unpredictable, often bizarre effects have been documented in the world of subatomic particles, ruled by the perplexing laws of quantum mechanics. Are our minds capable of directing.

Subatomic particles and energies in a way that results in PK phenomena?

One theory is that psychokinesis is the manipulation of a sort of human "magnetic field" around the body, which can be concentrated in a specific area. For this to work, they say, you must be able to relax completely and focus your attention without distraction.

Another speculation is that mediums or participants in a séance are able to coalesce sound or heat waves within a room to form coherent energy which can then be directed at an object, such as a table, causing it to move.

Although the "how" of PK remains unknown, research and experimentation on this fascinating phenomenon continues in respected research labs around the world. (Go here for a brief history of psychokinetic research.)

Developing and Testing Your Psychokinetic Powers

Can anyone have powers of telekinesis?

"Everyone has the potential to be able to be telekinetic," says Deja Allison at Telekinesis on Crystalinks. "Telekinesis is created by higher levels of consciousness. It cannot be created by 'wishing it' to happen on the physical level. The energy to move or bend an object is created by a person's thoughts created by their subconscious mind."

Several websites suggest ways that you might be able to develop or strengthen powers of psychokinesis. Using Psychological Telekinesis says meditation and a kind of chanting, which they provide, can help train your mind for the task, even though they offer no proof of any kind that it really works.

Mario Varvoglis, Ph.D., author of PSI Explorer, suggests that the best way to begin testing psychokinetic powers is not by trying to move a table or even a matchbook. Varvoglis says it's much better to see if you can influence movement on a microscopic level - micro-PK. Micro-PK has been tested for years with such devices as random number generators, in which the subject tries to influence the random outcome of the machine in a way that is much greater than chance. Some of the most interesting tests of this kind are being conducted at the Princeton Engineering Anomalies Laboratory (PEAR) laboratory at Princeton University - and their results show that some people really can influence the computerized random number generators with the power of their minds. Varvoglis provides a similar test on his PSI Explorer CD-ROM.

Spirit Online offers this seven-step method of improving your PK:

Meditate daily for half an hour, 15 minutes if your schedule is too busy. Attempt PK at least once a day, twice if possible. Give yourself a good 30-60 minutes to try it.
Focus on one method for at least a week; if it shows no results, switch methods.
Be at ease; instead of taking it too seriously, think of it as an experiment, a game. If you try too hard you'll just end up frustrating yourself and you'll get nowhere.
Don't give up.
Don't tell yourself you can't do it, because you can.

Online Psychokinesis Experiment provides three different tests in which can try to move a red line on a colored bell curve, try to influence the appearance of a randomly generated shape, or try to influence the position of a blue circle on the screen.

CBS 11 News) HALTOM CITY In the world of the paranormal, experts say there are many phenomena that can occur involving light. But one North Texas church has reported not only the appearance of orbs, but other religious manifestations.

Riverwalk Fellowship Church is a charismatic church in Haltom City. The services aren't exactly traditional and neither are some of the reported phenomena happening there lately.

The church’s senior pastor Steve Solomon, a Messianic Jew (a Jew who believes Jesus is his/her messiah) has reported, among other things, an oil substance manifesting on the balcony and on the baptismal and the pulpit of the sanctuary.

One of the church’s prayer intercessors, Velma Alexander, was the first person to discover the oil when entering the sanctuary one day and simply touching one of the columns in the church. She says her initial reaction was, "Somebody better call Pastor Steve, ‘cause oil don't come outta wood and brass!" Alexander said when the pastor first heard about it he thought something had broken, thus their investigation into the matter began.

Solomon said that as people began taking pictures of the oil, something else began to appear in the pictures. He said, "We'd started taking pictures at church and almost everyone would just take a picture and these orbs of light would show up."

We decided to pay a visit to the church and take our own picture. It revealed a very large blue orb hovering over a woman’s head as she was being prayed over.

It all looked very compelling but we needed an expert opinion. Most photography experts said light can reflect in many different ways and there are so many variables, it can be difficult to explain in scientific terms.

One thing that intrigued all the experts was a video shot by a 13-year-old boy at this church. According to the pastor, the teenager was visiting the church and was videotaping the service. The pastor says the power went out during the service, but despite the darkness in the sanctuary, they kept going. Later, when they replayed the boy’s videotape, they saw an orb of light moving through a church member. Pastor Solomon said, “…starts at her feet and goes right through her body out her head."

We contacted an expert in paranormal psychology and director of the Office of Paranormal Investigations in Berkeley, California. We told Loyd Auerbach about the videotape and about what we had seen at the church. Aurebach said, "Orbs on video and photography are said to be all kinds of things from energetic effects to ghosts to even UFO's.” But, he said, this sounded like psychokinetic energy "...energy from the person or energy between the people; if it's a healing situation, affecting the film, the digital media." In other words, the orbs might have been that energy caught on tape.

Auerbach said once you eliminate the photographic possibilities like other light sources, dust on the lenses, tampering, etc. – and someone is physically affected, then it bears watching. He said that since, in this case, the power had gone out, we had checked our lens and the tape was viewed immediately, “something is ‘probably’ going on.”

According to Auerbach, there have been many experimental studies on orbs done in the past two decades and they have concluded that some people do exhibit the ability to affect film and other human beings merely with their thoughts or energy.

Pastor Solomon pointed to the orbs of light depicted in very old paintings behind Jesus and the Saints and said, “how did they know to do that; where did that come from?” Solomon added, "I believe it's a sign from the Lord. There's nothing wrong with supernatural signs."

The feeling seemed to be echoed by Velma Alexander, the woman who discovered the oil in the church. She was still reeling from her experience. She said, "it was awesome. I haven't been the same since…I don’t care what they say, I know God is real.”

Although there are no true experts on orb photography, experts like Auerbach give us at least a glimpse into the possibilities they might present. There are many Websites devoted to the orb phenomena. One site we found, prairieghosts.com, gives a thorough layout of how to discern between what it terms real orbs—ones that are actually paranormal in nature—and flukes, such as reflections. The Website says that although most orbs are not paranormal in nature it is wise to take a closer look at orbs which “move” while on camera.

The disturbing implications of electronic voice phenomena

Electronic voice phenomena is today one of the most fascinating areas of paranormal research. Human-sounding voices from unknown origin are recorded on such electronic media as tape recorders, digital voice recorders, video recorders and other devices. Strangely, the voices are not heard at the time of the recording; it is only when the recording is played back that the voices are heard.

(Contrary to the premise of the film White Noise, EVPs are very often found without the use of "white noise" – random static from a radio or television – although this method has been used successfully.)

The phenomenon has been experienced and documented virtually since the invention of recording devices. Skeptics reasoned that the voices were caused by stray radio broadcasts or pre-recorded voices on re-used tapes.

EVP researchers were quick to dismiss the second reason, affirming that they only used sealed new tapes for their recordings. And then, of course, digital recorders, which require no tapes, made that argument irrelevant – the voices still showed up.

Aside from outright fraud (and to be sure there is some of that taking place here and there), this left the skeptics with the one "reasonable" explanation: the voices were caused by fragments of radio broadcasts. This dismissive explanation makes it clear that these skeptics – who usually tout themselves as being scientifically minded – have never tried to record EVPs and have certainly not researched the phenomenon very well. (Unfortunately, this is very often the case with skeptics and the paranormal.)

If they had researched it, they would have found that the radio broadcast theory is absurd. Why? Because quite often, these voices actually respond to questions posed by researchers, comment on situations in a relevant manner, and occasionally even address the researchers by name. The chances of a stray radio broadcast doing this with just a few choice words are too remote to even consider by any objective person. Also, the voices are clearly not those of loudmouthed DJs or other broadcasters; they are voices of average people, children, adults, seniors, male and female. Some have accents and some are infused with human emotion. There are real personalities behind these voices, wherever they come from.

Where do they come from?

It is true that the quality of EVP recordings varies widely. Some are of such low quality that we're left to guess what the voice is saying. There are many, however, that are quite clear and are usually categorized as Class A recordings. These EVPs represent the best evidence for a phenomenon yet to be fully understood. Where do these voices come from? This is the big question. Do they come from our own subconscious? Are they angelic or demonic in nature? Do they cross over from other dimensions of reality? Are they the voices of dead people?

For the purposes of this article, let us consider the last theory, that they are the voices of dead people.

This may be the most commonly excepted theory among EVP researchers. And if this is true, what are the implications of these EVPs and the things the voices are saying?

The ghost phenomenon has always raised unsettling questions about what happens to some of us when we die. Are some of us doomed to walk the earth after death, seemingly unaware of our demise, for an unknown length of time? (If time has any meaning where they are.) Why and how do they remain?

Except in very rare cases, ghosts – that is, apparitions – do not communicate with the living. Usually, they appear and vanish. There have been attempts to communicate with the dead through mediums, séances and Ouija boards, of course, but the results of these methods are dubious or, at best, highly controversial.

EVPs, on the other hand, seem to be direct communication from these spirits. Hard evidence. The voices are right there on the recordings. They respond, answer questions, even ask questions of their own. There are hundreds of these voices documented – maybe even thousands.

You can hear a diversity of examples on several websites. For example, at Utah Paranormal Research Group, you'll hear a friendly voice say "How ya doing?" and another one threaten, "Get the hell out of here." At The Atlantic Paranormal Society, there's a child's voice pleading "Don't go" and a woman saying, "Don't hurt me."

A fate worse than death?

There are EVPs reflecting the full range of human personalities and emotions. These people are not only self-aware, but their interaction with researchers indicates that they are aware of the living. They can hear us and see us. Do they know they are dead? Do they know we are alive? Do they know the difference?

These poor souls seem to be stuck in a limbo, and there is a kind of confusion and uncertainty in many of the things they say. What is their world like? It may be beyond our earthly comprehension, and perhaps we should be thankful for that.

If EVPs are voices of the dead, what does that imply for the fate of some of us? We too might get stuck in that limbo, struggling to make contact with strange beings walking around with tape recorders. I'm not one to think negatively about death and its aftermath, but EVPs present grave evidence that life after death might not always be as clear-cut or as pleasant as we hope.

Are you green with envy; perhaps feeling a little blue? Or are you just too yellow to handle it?

For hundreds of years, colors have been associated with emotions. We use these expressions so often in daily life we forget their origins are in auras: the radiance surrounding a person that shows their physical and mental well-being. With this understanding, it is only natural to question whether or not the deceased still have auras as well. And if they do in fact show mood with color, is it possible for us to see or better still photograph it?

Observations of auras began in 1777 when scientist George Christoph Lichtenberg first observed a high voltage corona discharged from a human hand in resin dust. As photography advanced, scientists started finding ways to capture this phenomenon on film, giving it the name electrography.

In 1939, Semyon Kirlian invented a special type of camera to capture this unusual electrostatic-like occurrence. Living objects were placed upon an electrified plate, and photographs were taken, which depicted an unusual electrical discharge emanating from the subject. In some fascinating experiments, freshly cut leaves appeared to have the same aura’s as the living tree though from which they came.

From Kirlian’s work, came the standardization of the aura colors, known generally as color therapy, where the colors of the aura were defined to represent a persons state of being. However, the results of experiments in the Kirlian Effect are still highly debated though. A lack of clinical studies and a standardized research method left this field open for further research. Even so, the results of these experiments cannot be completely ruled out. It may in fact be a way of showing the essence of living beings.

So how can auras and Kirlian Effect have a possible connection with the every day paranormal investigator? The answer is both simple and debatable: Orbs.

Orbs are spherical “lights” or balls of energy appearing on film and in photographs believed to be the simplest form of a spirit. Orbs have been captured on both video and photographic film. They come in a range of sizes but more importantly, on some rare occasions, they appear to have different colors.

This begs the question: could there be a connecting principle between aura and orb colors? In order to gain a better understanding of this, we must explore what an orb really is.
In the rare instances when orbs are actually witnessed by individuals on a first-hand level, they are generally described as a round, transparent object, having a thicker outer layer or membrane and with sizes varying from a 6-inches to several feet in diameter. Some witnesses have reported orbs hovering around an individual or object, giving rise to the belief that orbs are intelligent had have a firm grasp of the world of the living.

Contrary to popular belief orbs, as a paranormal phenomenon, are a relatively new subject to the paranormal community even though their occurrence has drastically increased with the emergence digital technology. However if one can rule out all possible naturally occurring reasons for a photographic orb (i.e. dust, insects, and moisture), what is left is the common belief that orbs are some form of electrostatic energy, either being part of or an entire spirit entity. This would mean that these objects are in essence globules of energy and/or light particles (in the case of ‘visible’ orbs). With some basic understanding of the workings of digital cameras, this could make some sense. Unlike 35mm cameras, digital cameras do not directly take “photographs” of an image. Photons (particles of light having similar properties as energy) are converted into electrons (electric current) when they make contact with the charged coupled device or CCD (a collection of light sensitive diodes). Essentially, the product is a black and white imprint of the energy patterns emitted by objects and surroundings. Through filtering, colors are broken down and converted into a form the processors can understand, giving the orb its recognizable colors.

So could the occurrence of orbs on digital photos be capturing a form of Kirlian effect? At this time, one cannot be sure, though it is an interesting hypothesis and one that should be investigated further. The only thing that can be safely state is that some photo anomalies are unexplainable and could possibly be paranormal in nature. It can also be safely stated that the appearance of these anomalies having a definite color seems to indicate something unusual is going on.

And if that color can be linked to the energy of the orb and could that energy represent the state of being of a given spirit?

Until further information and research surfaces regarding the true make of the orbs, the color theory should be considered to be as plausible as the Kirlian Effect from which aura’s are based.

So the next time you are on an investigation and find yourself staring at a photo with an orb in it, first ask yourself, ‘Is it more than just dust?’

After that, if it’s not simply some shade of white, look at the possible meanings for that particular color. Compare them to notes, observations, and evidence use EVP’s recorded at the time and place of the colored orbs, to see if the words could indicate a mood or mind set similar to the meaning behind the colors. Who knows, you may just be surprised by what you discover?

Space Aliens, Big Foot, .....

I have a paranormal problem. I know we have many "Big Foot" and "Space Alien" readers, because you write me from time to time whining because we don't cover them on our site at Eastern Paranormal. If big foot or space aliens exist surely someone can capture one, just one with a satellite, cell phone camera, .....you get the ideal.

I firmly believe the soul exist outside of the body. I can furnish proof of this with my pictures, EVP's, ....... However, I am looking folks, but I have found no proof of space aliens, nor Big Foot. I am open minded, I find it hard to believe we are alone out there, and there are many things in history we really cannot account for. However with technology being what it is today I see no reason why people who are UFO, big foot, Nessie,....enthusiast cannot furnish us with some credible evidence. Furnish me with credible proof of one of these items and I will post it on EP's site, in the blog, and anywhere else I can help you with. I am not ignoring your emails or request, I am simply requiring some sort of proof.

Angels

Appearance & Characteristics:

An Angel is a spiritual or celestial being (Non-Human) sent to earth to do Gods bidding such as; relay a message, to serve wrath, serve as a protector…..They do Gods bidding, not mans. They can take many different forms such as a human but unlike their nemesis (Demons), they will be perfect when they manifest (No missing body parts). There are so many different types of angels that there are entire books written on just this subject.

Apparitions or Disembodied Spirits

Appearance & Characteristics:

This is one of the most uncommon occurrences caught on film, but what all ghost hunters aspire to. They may show up in a transparent human form wearing clothing of their period, or on rare occurrences they may not be transparent.

Demons

Appearance & Characteristics:

Demons are not human, but they can appear to look human. They have the capability of human possession, and the strength greater than any flesh and blood creature. Never challenge this type of entity. Usually demonic spirits are distinguished by their dark, or black masses of psychic energy. These are often dark black, wispy shapes are seen in cases where the demonic are concerned. I have found that demons will never appear “Perfect” when taking a human form. They will be missing something, eye (s), finger (s), hand (s), …… There are so many different types of demons that there are entire books written on just this subject.

Ectoplasm & Ecto-Mist

Appearance & Characteristics:

This can appear as a cloudy or stingy mist.The term “Ectoplasm” is used to describe the substance that resonates from spirit mediums. I have seen this several times stringing out of my solar plexus. I was a bit over loaded with session this past Christmas and kept seeing this. My husband actually captured it several times on my chest area while taking Christmas pictures.

Evil Spirits AKA Dark Entities

Appearance & Characteristics:

Some categorize these under demonic. I choose not to. I have encountered darker entities that were human in their past life’s (Demons are never human). They usually desire to cause havoc, or ill will. They can take many different shapes. They are more known by their nature and energy. Just because someone dies it does not mean they become “Perfect.” If they were a mean spirited person here on earth, and now are earth bound for whatever reasons they will retain the same character traits.

Orbs

Appearance & Characteristics:

Orbs are the most photographed anomalies captured on film by everyday folks. Often they are transparent or translucent balls of light. Sometimes they appear to have an inner substance (nucleus or brain). Other times they appear to have actually faces in them. Orbs are believed by many to be the soul or spirit of those that have passed on from this life. Other theories on orbs range from space aliens, angels, multi dimensional beings, demons, ….. You get the ideal. They can also be different colors, and there are also many theories on this. Orbs can also be mistaken for rain drops, dust, …. The best orb pictures are orbs in motion and the bright ones with the inner substance.

Shadow Ghosts

Appearance & Characteristics:

These ghosts usually appear as a shadow of sorts. They are somewhat evasive and usually on the run in any shots they are captured in. Some believe they are demonic spirits but I do not necessarily believe that. I am still trying to figure out what they are. They often appear jumping around out of the corner of ones eye and range around 2 ft or more in size. In most photos they are captured to the side.

Vaporous & Ghostly Mist

Appearance & Characteristics:

These favor a mist or fog, sometimes a swirl effect within a vaporous cloud. The most common color is white or gray for these, but they can/have appeared in other colors including black.

Vortex AKA Funnel Ghosts

Appearance & Characteristics:

This is a swirling funnel shape when in motion. They can also appear long and narrow and having a tread like design. Some theorize this is a vehicle to transport spirits in the shape of orbs from their realm to ours.

Dictionary.com's definition of ethics is as follows:

1. A set of principles of right conduct.
2. A theory or a system of moral values: “An ethic of service is at war with a craving for gain” (Gregg Easterbrook).
3. ethics (used with a sing. verb) The study of the general nature of morals and of the specific moral choices to be made by a person; moral philosophy.
4. ethics (used with a sing. or pl. verb) The rules or standards governing the conduct of a person or the members of a profession: medical ethics.

Today I am writing about a disturbing trend that many in the paranormal field are whispering about, that is the ethics, or rather the lack there of being practiced by some groups in the field today. Below is a list of seven practices which should never be tolerated by any serious investigation groups:

1. Identity Theft. Identity theft is starting an organization intentionally with an identical or almost identical name to another well known group or former well known group. This is being done by individuals hoping that this will increase their search engine placement. This is a despicable act. If you know of a founder who has participated in such behavior you should immediately disassociate yourself from that group. It shows their true character. When founding a group at the very least you should do the following when searching for a name:

a. Google the name.
b. Do a "Who is" on the name.
c. Buy your name domain. You can get free domain hosting very often with www.godaddy.com with the purchase of your domain cost.

2. The open participation in a seance in private residence investigations. If a group wants to conduct a seance in the coarse of experiments for data or lack of data collection OUTSIDE of investigations in a controlled environment that is that private groups prerogative. However, conducting a seance in a private investigation where activity is occurring is an unethical practice. Simply due to the fact that you open up the home to the possibility of more activity. I have personally witnessed several cases I was contacted on that this was the case. Any TRUE medium/psychic should NEVER need to participate in a seance to retrieve or communicate information.

3. Drinking on investigations. You should never consume alcohol or drugs on an investigation. This includes celebrating at the end of an investigation at that location. Last year I was contacted by someone that had a somewhat intense haunting in their former home that was only made worse three fold because of this sort of behavior. They had an investigation group come in, they had pictures of beer cans and such around during the investigation. The next time the group came back one of their members got a scratch running down their back. The home owner ended up selling the home for considerably less than the going market price because of the increased activity.

4. Provoking spirits. This is where a group comes in and intentionally invokes spirits by provoking them in a negative manner. This is done by making comments like, "You're a coward, I dare you to...." Again I was contacted a couple of years ago by a family that this had incurred in their home by a group. The family ended up having to move because the activity increased ten fold after that. We have some great paranormal photo's. Not in one case was provoking used. Speaking openly to them while you are taking EVP's and shooting pictures is fine in a polite manner. It is when a group puts a negative spin on the tone of the investigation the leaves the door open for increased activity in the home.

5. Knowingly posting fraudulent evidence on your website. We have all witnessed groups posting everything from oil painting picture clips to intentionally hoaxed pictures. When a group does this they might as well shut their doors. They have lost all accountability. Evidence posted on your website should be run through a battery of test before posted publicly. Remember! If in doubt throw it out!

6. Affiliation with "Dark Art" practices. I am referring to Satanist, HooDoo Voodoo practitioners and the like. If you come to the realization that one of your members are participating in such practices you need to disassociate them immediately. Because of my deep study of demonology through the years I have been consulted on several incubus cases where Satanic ritual practices and HooDoo practices had been preformed prior to the attacks. You never want to knowingly include such a person in a serious investigation. Often these sort of people have dark entities attached to them that can make a volatile situation even more so.

7. Association fraud. Anyone who has had any kind of media coverage has had to deal with this. We have been contacted and by several former businesses stating that a group has contacted them claiming association with us when they have none requesting to do an investigation at their site. One time they were even stupid enough to put it in an email that was immediately forwarded to me by a contact. This is a deplorable act. We then went on to TOTALLY not recommend this group because of this DOCUMENTED behavior. All paranormal groups should have an "About Us Page" that clearly states who their members and associates are. We know of one group here in Eastern Carolina last year that posted they were conducting an investigation with TAPS on their website. They were not, and rightfully so were totally debunked.

Portals? Vortex's?

Portals? Vortex's? Other than photographs how can we prove they exist? The picture above was taken Christmas Season 2004 by me. There where you see the funnel shaped ecto reeling from multiple psychics and mediums have told us there is portal/vortex there. Below is a picture I captured there this past Christmas Season 2005 while shooting pictures of my husband and the Christmas lights. We were not "Ghost Hunting" when the shots were shot, they were simply holiday Christmas shots of our home.

In wake of tsunami, fears of ghosts still haunt Thailand

Few will actually admit to seeing a ghost themselves, but everyone has heard about them on this once idyllic island still rebuilding after the tsunami killed 700 people.

There was the woman who saw foreign tourists struggling to escape the sea almost a year after the tsunami, and the hotel worker who heard ghosts playing on the beach.

Guards at an oceanfront plaza on nearby Phuket's famed Patong beach said one of their men had quit after hearing a foreign woman cry "help me" all night long.

Similar stories abound of a female foreign ghost walking along the shoreline at night calling for her child.

Many Thais say they believe the souls of the nearly 5,395 people who were killed in the tsunami continued to haunt the Andaman coast long after the debris had been cleared away and reconstruction began.

It's not so much that the spirits are angry as confused. Many Thais of all faiths say that if people die in pain or by accident, their spirits remain lost until they understand what has happened and can move on.

For 26-year-old Lungyai Suriyaporn, her fear that ghosts were still wandering the beaches of Phi Phi was one of the reasons she stayed away from the island for nearly 10 months after the tsunami.

Lungyai returned in October to reopen her backpacker lodge. Guests have been trickling to the modest two-story house, where she also runs a small convenience store off her porch.

She believes most of the lost souls from the tsunami have already moved on and no longer haunt the beaches, but says the memorial ceremonies planned for the first anniversary will help the ghosts that remain.

"This is good, to inform people about the tsunami, and to give ceremonies for the souls, for the ghosts that are still here. And we need to remember all of those who were here and lost their lives in the tsunami," she said.

Thailand will hold interdenominational ceremonies again on the first anniversary of the tsunami, with morning services on five beaches timed for the moment when the waves hit, and a larger candlelight vigil at dusk.

Fears of ghosts have kept Thais and many other Asians from returning to the tsunami-hit beaches, preferring instead to visit the Gulf of Thailand, where the deadly waves did not hit.

Sujitra Wichianirat, 35, an office worker in Bangkok, said she would not go to the Andaman coast even one year later.

"First, I'm scared of ghosts. Second, I'm scared of tsunamis because I'm worried it might happen again. If tsunamis happen, at least we know from the tsunami warning system and I can run away from it. But for ghosts, I don't know how to escape from them," she said.

Hundreds of bodies have yet to be identified -- the Disaster Victim Identification unit says it has 805 bodies or body parts from unknown victims — which Sujitra said means the dead could be reappearing as ghosts to seek help.

From the moment the tsunami hit, Thai Buddhists have turned to monks to help soothe these lost souls.

When Thais along the Andaman coast began retrieving corpses, they carried them to temples, where hundreds of bodies were kept for months as the largest international forensics team ever assembled began the ongoing work of identifying them.

Temple grounds also became emergency shelters, where thousands of people sought refuge after losing their homes.

Just days after the tsunami hit, monks in their flowing orange robes began walking the beaches, sprinkling holy water, and visiting homes and businesses for cleansing ceremonies.

Muslim, Christian and Hindu religious leaders were also invited to join interdenominational prayer services and "merit-making" ceremonies, which Buddhists believe will help the souls of the dead find a better life as they become reincarnated.

Despite the fears of ghosts, Alan Oliver, an American researcher at the World Buddhist University in Bangkok, said that in general, the tsunami had not shaken Thai Buddhists' faith.

"In Buddhism, there is no 'God did this. Why did God do this?' They see it as a natural cause. Buddhists view that life is imperfect. When a disaster like this happens, they just accept it as a natural way of things happening."

THE FESTIVE, cheerful Christmas season, so infused with goodwill, is not immune to the paranormal and ghosts. Just ask Ebenezer Scrooge. Weird, unexplained, and downright eerie events take place just as often this time of year. In fact, the people who experience them might be more apt to remember them because of the association with the holiday.

Santa White Noise

Children aren’t immune either. While they might have visions of sugar plums, Santa Claus and piles of presents dancing in their heads, they are sometimes witness to apparitions that are not visiting from the North Pole. Richard was just six on Christmas Eve in 1976, eagerly awaiting the special morning and having a hard time falling asleep.

“Perhaps helping contribute to my sleeplessness,” Richard recalls, “I had a full-on view from my bed of the [Christmas] tree all lit up in glowing splendor.

distinctly remember trying to go to sleep. I may have even fallen asleep, but then for whatever reason I awoke. As I opened my eyes I was riveted to the scene.

“I saw something bending over the presents. It was a short figure about one or two feet tall and composed entirely of what I can only describe as white noise (the kind of static you get on a TV channel that has no signal). It just stood there, motionless. It was quite clearly there. However, when I rubbed my eyes to address an itch, the figure had disappeared. Whatever it was, perhaps I'm one of the few people who actually can claim to have seen a real Santa Claus.”

Christmas Eve Spirit

DeeDee saw a ghost on Christmas Eve, too, when she was 15 years old. She was staying at her grandparents’ house with her family, siblings and cousins. “The little ones and the adults all went to bed fairly early,” DeeDee says, “but my cousins, siblings and I stayed up a little later than we were supposed to.

“Everybody decided that it was time to turn in, so we made our way downstairs and hopped into bed. We were all just lying there chatting with the light off and the door closed when I looked over and saw a figure in the shape of a boy of about 11 standing in front of the doorway. I immediately assumed it was my brother (who was 11 at the time) and told him to get to bed. My 11-year-old brother replied, ‘Ahhh, I AM in bed.’ I looked down and could see his face. Everybody else in the room then confirmed that they were also in their beds as well. I looked up again and saw that the figure was still there.

“‘Well then, who is that?’ I said and pointed toward the door. And no sooner had I said it than the figure vanished into the darkness. Needless to say, we ALL slept on the mattress on the floor that night.” Christmas music and carols seem to be in the air everywhere in the weeks preceding the holiday, but they usually have a logical source. Usually... but perhaps not always.

In 1986, ten-year-old Polin was hanging out in his room one night with his cousin, who always came to visit around Christmas time. “On this evening, we started to hear what we thought were the neighbors out singing Christmas carols,” Polin vividly remembers. “The sound of the singing was getting louder and louder as, I assumed, the carolers approached our house. In fact, they were singing my favorite Christmas song, ‘Do You Hear What I Hear.’ Interested to see, my cousin and I dashed to the window and started to look out into the dark night. What we saw, or should I say, didn't see was beyond words.

Although the singing continued to get louder, there was no one outside! We went to other windows in the house to see better, but still there was no one in sight. We just stared at each other in disbelief. The eerie singing slowly began to fade, as if the invisible carolers were walking past our house.

“I kept telling [my cousin] there had to be a logical explanation for what we heard, but there was not. No radio, TV or other devices were on in our house. Later, we asked some of the neighbors if they were playing Christmas carols that evening. They quickly confirmed our fear when they said no. Needless to say, the song is no longer a favorite of mine.”
Time-Traveling Car

Memories of our childhood Christmases and the notaligic “tales of Christmases long, long ago” can transport us back in time to relive those happy moments. Occasionally, perhaps, some of us can find ourselves caught literally in a time warp. Jane had such an unnerving experience when she was hurriedly doing last-minute Christmas shopping... and the stores were soon closing.

“I saw an antique store I wanted to go to, but couldn't find the parking space I wanted on the back side of the street,” Jane says. “Giving up, I parked on the main side and got out looking at a ‘sale’ sign on the sidewalk. Crunching through the snow, I walked to the end of the building and found the perfect gift.

“I came out of the end of the building, turned the corner and headed down the street toward my car – which wasn't there! At all! My mouth dropped open and I just stared. My footprints were still in the snow where I'd gotten out, paused and looked at the ‘sale’ sign, but no car. It was now 5:30, and as I looked up and down the street, every store window was dark. No place was open for me to call the police and report my car had been stolen.

“I began to get frantic, pacing up and down, wondering where I could find a phone. Maybe there was one around the corner! Around I walked, and no phone. But there was a gray Monte Carlo that looked just like mine. I walked slowly up to it and it looked the same. I tried the key and the door unlocked. By now I was almost hysterical and started crying. I almost couldn't remember how to even drive back to my house.

“Did my ‘wishing’ make it so – wanting to park back there in the first place? Guess I'll never know.”

Time Glitch
Erin also had an unexplainable time slip. Back in 1996, the 16-year-old was on Christmas vacation in Ocean City, New Jersey. It was a freezing cold, dark December day.

“My dad and I decided to take a ride over to the boardwalk and explore the barren shops and carnival rides,” Erin recalls. “There was not one other soul on that boardwalk. We had walked about a half mile up the boardwalk, when we noticed someone coming toward us. The closer he came, we realized it was just someone jogging. We watched him come toward us. As we were getting ready to say hello, he passed and we smiled, and he just kind of stared at us.

“Then something totally bizarre happened. About four seconds later, I looked up and that same jogger was about 20 feet ahead of us again, coming toward us, like he had never passed. I was very confused at first, so I looked behind me to see if the first jogger was still running, but there was nothing behind us. I could tell my dad was going through the same questioning because he was looking behind us, too. So the jogger coming toward us was passing us again, the exact same guy, with the same clothes, the same strange empty stare! The same guy!

“There was no way he could have run back, pass us, turn around and come back toward us in such a short time, without us seeing. If it was a second jogger who looked exactly the same, then we would have seen him coming along with the other jogger; he was only about 20 feet behind the first jogger. We also would have seen the first jogger behind us when we turned around.

“To this day we both think something supernatural occurred, we just don’t know what it was.”

Everybody loves Santa – that jolly old elf. To most of us he represents much of what’s joyful, thrilling and hopeful about the season. Rafael, however, had a terrifying experience with an entity that can only be termed the anti-Santa.

“I was 10 years old, and it was a stormy night on Christmas Eve,” Rafael says. “I was lying in bed, unafraid of the storm raging. Suddenly, as lighting flashed, a dark figure was lit up in the sky, and it looked a lot like a chariot driven by many ‘horned horses.’ This stirred up my old belief in Santa Claus, but I dismissed it because I'd found my parents writing on the presents from ‘Santa’ two years earlier. Another bolt of lighting ripped across the sky and the figure was gone.

“Suddenly, another bolt of lighting flashed accompanied by booming thunder. sat upright, and looked around the room. There, in the corner on my chair, was a fat figure. He looked up with bloodshot eyes and growled, ‘Hello, sonny. You've been a naughty boy.’ I remember he said the word ‘naughty’ in a ferocious tone, and it scared the hell out of me.

“He stood up and he was suddenly illuminated by my desk light. He was fat, with a bushy white beard, red rosy cheeks, plus the jolly red suit, but his eyes were bloodshot and he had clawed hands and clawed feet sticking out of torn boots.

“I was about to scream, but he jumped on me and pushed me against the wall. He was too strong, and I couldn't struggle free, but somehow, I managed to pry my face from his gruesome hands, and I managed a loud scream for a couple of seconds. The ‘Santa’ grabbed my throat and squeezed, and just as I was blacking out, my parents came running in. I just saw them burst through the door as I went out cold.

“The next morning, my parents told me I had been screaming and I was pressed against the wall for absolutely no reason, but my neck was bruised and I had scratch marks on my chest. I went to have it checked out, but we never found the cause. I never saw the Evil Santa again, but that sure as hell made me question whether or not he really exists, and whether he is good or evil.”

Ghost Wanted to Play

Christmas memories can live with us forever. For a child, almost nothing can compare to the powerful feelings of anticipation, joy and togetherness. Do these strong emotions live on even after death? Kirstien’s experience suggests that they might. When she was seven, her family had just moved into a new house. Every morning she would sit on the bottom step of the home’s staircase with her cornflakes, waiting for the postman to arrive.

“Whilst I was waiting, I sometimes held my cornflakes box as a steering wheel and pretended the stairs were a bus,” Kirstien remembers. “My brother was downstairs, my mum was in the kitchen, and my dad was away at sea. So no one was upstairs. I sensed someone staring at me, and as I turned around, there was a little girl ‘riding in the back of my bus,’ standing at the top of the stairs. I stared at her for a few seconds then stood up. As I wandered down my hall, she wandered off around the corner.

“I didn't see her again for a few months. It was getting close to Christmas and we had just brought giant stockings. I laid mine on the floor ready for Christmas Eve. On Christmas morning, I awoke and the little girl was bent down at my stocking, peering inside. She stood up and walked toward my bed. She got on her knees and crawled underneath.

“I started screaming and my mum ran in. She checked under my bed and there was nothing there. Who was this little girl? My mum decided to check it out and we got a priest into our house. He blessed the upstairs and everywhere else. From this point I thought all was ok.

“A couple of weeks passed. My mum was at the top of my garden and she called for me to bring up the pegs. I went into the back toilet and the little girl was standing about a foot away staring at me. She looked upset and angry. I walked back slowly and so did she (perhaps copying me). She wore a frilly nightgown with a red ribbon to the side of her head. My mum went online and checked the history of the house. This girl was called Jayla Anne Misgorth. When she was six, she watched as her younger brother fell down the stairs and died. She was only looking for someone else to play with.”

November 4, 2005 Eastern Paranormal and one of our Associate Members conducted an investigation of a private business in downtown Wilmington, NC. EP was contacted by the business after several employees reported seeing an apparition walk through the business alongside other activity while remodeling was going on. Over 300 photo's were taken along with several hours of video, and tapes. The above picture is from that investigation and was taken by James.

Eastern Paranormal does not disclose the location of most private businesses, or any of it's private residences it investigates. Also unfortunately after having several paranormal enthusiast show up intoxicated to view our investigations most public investigation locations will now be given after the fact.
